TYPES OF THERAPY YOU DEAL WITH
Personally my passion and expertise lie with one to one counselling sessions and groupwork in Primary schools with children. Play and art therapy is an important part of my counselling role, meaning I can use creative materials as well as talking as outlets in my sessions.
Level 1, 2 and 3 in Counselling. Professional Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling. Diploma in working with Children. Level 4 in Preparing to teach learning sector, Degree in Education and Training. Professional Certificate in Clinical & Creative Supervision.
I began my counselling journey back in 2009 when i enrolled on a counselling course at South Tyneside college. I loved it and qualified as a counsellor 2012 after undergoing a degree in counselling at Sunderland University.
A children's mental health charity called Place2be offered me my first client work with Primary school children which mainly revolved around one to one counselling. I remained with Place2be as a volunteer counsellor for 4 years before progressing to an Assistant School Project Manager. This role involved one to one counselling and assisting in running the counselling project in my assigned school.
In 2017 I became a School Project Manager, running my own counselling service in a school in Blyth. One to one counselling, group work, circle time, parent support and whole school assemblies around mental health briefly summarises my time with Place2be. Additionally I began supervising a team of volunteers who were counselling in me school. I began working for Next Step Counselling in 2018 in two schools, offering a comprehensive counselling and mental health package to schools.
WHAT I DO NOW
Alongside working in a GP surgery I currently work for Next Step Counselling two days a week in two different schools. I run the service which mainly involves offering one to one counselling to primary school children and supporting their families and school staff. This also involves group work, class work, whole school assemblies on mental health and lunch time drop ins. As lead counsellor in one of my schools I also support and supervise a volunteer counsellor allowing us to offer our service to more children. Private counselling work is something I have recently started to offer and hope to expand in the future.
